Cat found in fire ruins: Luna survives

KROKSTADELVA/OSLO (Dagbladet) — A cat named Luna has been found alive in the ruins of a home destroyed by fire in Krokstadelva, Marcus Heltne Damli and his partner Sophie told Dagbladet on Wednesday.

Luna was discovered early Wednesday by volunteers searching the cordoned-off area. She was in poor condition, suffering extensive burns to her face, ears, paws and nose, but veterinarians at the animal hospital treating her said her overall health remains stable.

“We’re very relieved that she survived,” Heltne Damli said. “She’s likely been there for four days without food or water, in pain and badly injured.”

The couple, who moved to Krokstadelva in autumn 2024, lost their home and belongings in Friday’s blaze. They have been searching for their two cats, Luna and Felix, since the fire. Felix, a one-year-old grey-and-white tomcat, remains missing.

“Felix is very home-loving,” Sophie said. “Finding Luna inside the restricted area shows Felix could be there too, but we can’t search properly while access is limited.”

Volunteers from animal welfare groups, including Dyrebeskyttelsen, continue searching for ten missing animals in the area. A coordination point has been set up at Stenseth school.

Heltne Damli praised the volunteer effort as “incredible,” adding that hundreds of people have worked day and night to locate pets.
