Weather turns sour as rain dominates weekend forecast

Norway faces a wet and windy weekend as temperatures drop and persistent rain moves in, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute warns.

Dagbladet reports that southern and eastern regions, which had been enjoying mild summer warmth, will see highs fall to around 20°C by the weekend, with coastal winds making it feel even colder.

“It won’t be 30 degrees this week, but we’ll mostly stay around a pleasant 25,” meteorologist Charalampos Sarchosidis told NTB on Wednesday. “Come the weekend, it’ll feel colder, especially with onshore winds.”

Rain is expected to arrive in western and central Norway as early as Thursday, with showers continuing through Saturday and Sunday. “Unfortunately, it’s going to be rain all weekend,” Sarchosidis said, though he added that brief sunny spells may appear between downpours.

Western and mid-Norwegian areas may struggle to reach 15°C during the period, while northern regions—particularly Nordland—are set for the heaviest rainfall. Next week, low-pressure systems will bring a mix of rain and sun nationwide.

Troms and Finnmark, however, may see a more favorable Sunday, with temperatures climbing toward 20°C.
