Women to compete in first international tennis tournament on Danish soil

For the first time, women will compete in an international tennis tournament held in Denmark when the Gentofte Open begins on Tuesday in Gentofte Tennis Club.

The event marks a milestone for Danish women’s tennis, offering local and international female players the chance to earn ranking points without leaving the country. Last year’s tournament was open only to men.

Emma Kamper, a 22-year-old Danish national team player, said the expansion provides a rare opportunity for Danish women to showcase their talent on home soil.

“It’s a fantastic chance for all of us Danish women to have a tournament here at home in Denmark so we don’t have to travel so far,” Kamper said.

The women’s competition runs from July 21 to 26, with the final scheduled for Sunday. The men’s tournament follows in week 31. Spectators can attend free of charge.
