Mönkijä accident in Ruka claims life of municipal worker

Kuusamo police and the Finnish Labour and Welfare Administration are investigating a fatal all-terrain vehicle incident that occurred on Monday morning at the Ruka ski stadium complex in northern Finland.

The victim, a municipal employee born in the 1960s, died after being pinned beneath an ATV during work duties. The accident happened shortly after 08:00 local time in rough terrain adjacent to a small ski jump, according to city deputy mayor Jari Karsikko.

Kuusamo municipality has opened its own occupational safety review led by the city’s occupational safety manager and has filed a report with the Labour and Welfare Administration. Police are conducting a separate criminal investigation.

City officials said mental health support has been arranged for colleagues and a visit is planned to the deceased worker’s family.
