Rainbow crosswalk in Tórshavn draws mixed reactions

The city council of Tórshavn has granted permission for LGBT+ Føroyar to paint a rainbow crosswalk on Steinatún in the capital, but a councillor from the People’s Party says he is not satisfied.
LGBT+ Føroyar applied to paint the rainbow crosswalk on the pedestrian crossing in Steinatún. The group said the crosswalk has eleven stripes.
Kringvarp Føroya spoke with residents in Tórshavn about their views on the decision. Some expressed support for the rainbow crosswalk.
Birgir Nielsen, a councillor for the People’s Party in the Tórshavn city council, said he is not satisfied. He believes the decision to allow the rainbow crosswalk should have been discussed in the city council chamber. Nielsen said he wants the issue to be properly debated.
“The city council should have considered the rainbow crosswalk in Steinatún,” he said.
