In Klaksvík, a local initiative has been launched to organize a gardening day at the cemetery, inspired by the successful garden days at schools and nursing homes. Annika Sølvará, the driving force behind this event, expressed her curiosity about why cemeteries should not have a gardening day as well.

“This is a way to engage with each other differently, to converse with neighbors while also contributing positively,” Sølvará stated. The gardening day at Grøv in Klaksvík is coordinated with the local municipality and the cemetery director.

The event aims to create a pleasant atmosphere in good weather, offering residents an opportunity to come together. “Instead of endless discussions about the state of the cemeteries, we can take action ourselves,” she added.

Originally intended as a one-time event, the positive reception it has received may lead to its return in the future, as Sølvará noted the high level of participation.

The gardening day is scheduled to take place today from 4 to 6 PM.
