Danish runner wins ice marathon at the North Pole

Danish athlete Rikke Dam claimed victory in the women’s category of the North Pole Ice Marathon on Saturday, completing the 1.055-kilometre course in six hours, 54 minutes and two seconds.

The event, held on sea ice, drew 23 participants from seven countries. Organisers required life vests and stationed armed guards to monitor polar bear activity during the race.
