Large pile of commercial waste dumped on Valby sidewalk

Per Bille Jensen returned from a shopping trip to Jem & Fix in Valby, Copenhagen, to find a ten-day-old mound of what he described as commercial waste blocking the sidewalk outside an industrial zone that also hosts a McDonald’s.
“There’s no doubt that such waste attracts rats,” Jensen said. “It’s not something we usually see here.”
The pile included barrels of used cooking oil, old toilets, steel sheets and long rolls of cardboard. Copenhagen Municipality confirmed it is investigating the illegal dumping after residents flagged the issue on Facebook, citing the risk of vermin near a newly built school kitchen.
Businesses in Copenhagen normally pay to dispose of waste through municipal schemes or at recycling centres run by ARC. For example, a tradesperson arriving in a van to drop off standard construction waste at an ARC site is charged 340 Danish kroner per visit, including VAT.
