Ilosaarirock in Joensuu drew more than 64,000 visitors over three days, meeting the organiser’s minimum target, the festival’s managing director said on Sunday.

Niina Hattunen, CEO of Ilosaarirock organiser Rockservices Oy, noted that the daily minimum of 20,000 attendees was reached each day. She attributed the slight year-on-year drop in numbers to weakened household finances and increased competition from events in the Helsinki region.

“The Rock Train from southern Finland did not sell out this year,” Hattunen said.

Weather kept the event calm. Friday and Saturday remained dry, while Sunday evening brought moderate showers. Organisers also fenced off Linnunlahti beach due to sudden deep spots closer to shore.

Cheaper tickets for 8–17-year-olds sold in record numbers, and three-day passes for minors were offered for the first time. Hattunen said rising production costs mean the festival will aim next year to attract more tourists to Ilosaarirock and eastern Finland overall.

Police reported unusually high activity in central Joensuu, with emergency calls roughly double the usual summer weekend volume. Most incidents on Saturday night involved alcohol and disorderly conduct.
