Police in Finland’s Vaasa region are continuing their investigation into a severe assault on an eight-year-old child that occurred on July 12 at a schoolyard in the Ristinummi district.
The assault took place outside Variskan school in Ristinummi, where a large number of young people were present at the time. According to investigators, the child was doused with pipe-opening fluid, resulting in serious injuries. The child was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Police detained one suspect shortly after the incident. During the investigation, officers also discovered two improvised explosive devices in a potentially explosive state on the school grounds. A patrol safely disarmed the devices. No further explosive devices have been found.
Preliminary inquiries have not revealed any evidence suggesting a racist motive behind the assault.
