Pori Jazz falls short of main concert attendance targets but secures financial future

This year’s Pori Jazz festival drew 33,000 attendees to its headline Kirjurinmäki concerts over three days, falling short of organizers’ targets, festival director Sampsa Jolma said on Monday.

The event, which ran for nine days, attracted a total of 47,000 paid admissions and 190,000 visitors when including free performances across expanded outdoor stages in the city centre.

Jolma attributed the shortfall to rainy weather on Saturday, which dampened ticket sales for the John Legend and Juanes concert that had led pre-sales. Saturday’s show drew 10,000 spectators, while Friday’s performance drew the largest crowd at 14,000.

The festival’s financial outcome is not expected to reach break-even this year, Jolma said, though he emphasized that the organizing company, Pori Jazz Festival Oy, remains financially stable and that this year’s deficit will not affect planning for future editions.

Pori Jazz Festival Oy was established in 2025 and is owned by Svenska Kulturfonden i Björneborg, Satakunnan Osuuskauppa and the Korsi Foundation.

Jolma highlighted the strong turnout at free concerts, including those on the Satakunta stage along the summer promenade and at the Etelärannan Jazzkadun outdoor venue, as successes of the expanded festival area.

This year marked the 59th edition of the festival, which first launched in 1966. The 60th anniversary will be celebrated in 2027.
