Faroese party declines to endorse proposal on additional fishing days

Faroese People’s Party has neither accepted nor rejected a proposal by Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen to allocate more days for fishing quota 5B, according to party member Árni Skaale.

Prime Minister á Steig Nielsen has responded to 52 parliamentary questions, stating that this year he intends to allocate additional fishing days to quota 5. The opposition parties Framsókin and Tjóðveldi have already rejected the proposal, representatives Eirikur í Jákupsstovu and Ruth Vang told the newspaper Dag og vika during last weekend’s parliamentary recess.

The two remaining opposition parties, Sjálvstýri and Miðflokkurin, have endorsed the prime minister’s proposal. Javnaðarflokkurin has not commented, according to party leader Ben Arabo, who chairs the parliamentary fisheries committee.
