Passengers face queues at Copenhagen Airport on record travel day

Copenhagen Airport expects up to 123,000 passengers today, the highest single-day total in its history, officials said.

Kristoffer Plenge-Brandt, operations director at Copenhagen Airport, urged travellers to allow extra time and remain patient, noting that long queues remain possible despite additional staffing.

“A good piece of advice for travellers on a day like this is to arrive with a little patience,” Plenge-Brandt said. “It’s clear that on the airport’s busiest day you may have to wait in some queues, but we have planned for that and have increased staffing to handle it as best we can.”

Denmark’s national police have also reinforced passport control with extra officers and hired additional passport consultants to ease congestion. Anders Rath, a police inspector with Copenhagen Police, warned that queues will form during peak arrival and departure periods.

“Travellers will experience waiting times, especially during peak periods when many flights are arriving and departing simultaneously,” Rath said. “We have a strong collaboration with Copenhagen Airport, sharing flight data to deploy our resources efficiently and ensure effective and secure border control.”

The airport recommends arriving two hours before departure for Schengen destinations and three hours for non-Schengen countries such as the United Kingdom, Turkey, the United States and others.
