Fire damages home in Sørvágur, no injuries reported

No one was injured after a large fire tore through a row of homes in Sørvágur on the Faroese island of Vágar on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The blaze broke out in a shed and spread rapidly through adjacent properties, leaving them heavily damaged. Firefighters remain on scene attempting to fully contain the fire.

Eystein í Løðu, incident commander for the Sørvágur fire brigade, confirmed that residents evacuated the affected homes on their own as the fire took hold.

The fire also disrupted air traffic at Vágar Airport, according to airport manager Jákup Egholm Hansen.
