Man drowns in Nokianvirta river in Nokia
A middle-aged man drowned in the Nokianvirta river in Nokia, western Finland, on Saturday morning, police confirmed.
The Pirkanmaa Rescue Service received an alert at 05:30 after a four-person group reported that one member had fallen from the Emäkoski bridge into the water. The victim was later retrieved and confirmed dead.
“One person from the group ended up in the water from the bridge,” said Sami Suhonen, on-duty investigation leader at the Central Finland Police. “No crime is suspected at this stage.”
The case is being treated as an accidental drowning and is under investigation as a cause-of-death inquiry.
The Nokianvirta is a short river in Nokia that connects Lake Pyhäjärvi in Tampere to Lake Kulovesi.
