One person seriously injured in accident on Itäväylä

A serious accident on Helsinki’s Itäväylä highway left one person with critical injuries late Friday, according to emergency responders.

The incident occurred near Kalasatama around 19:30 local time, police said. Emergency services were alerted after a person was reported trapped under a vehicle. Traffic on the inbound lanes toward central Helsinki was halted while authorities secured the scene.

Normal traffic flow resumed by 21:00. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
