denmark, Janni Ree, legal case

Danish TV personality Janni Ree has been charged with accessing private messages on her ex-husband Karsten Ree’s phone and sharing details from a draft of his will, according to a prosecution document obtained by news agency Ritzau.

She faces two counts: one for reading Karsten Ree’s private messages, and another for disclosing information from his will and sending an audio file about his medical condition to his doctor. The alleged sharing occurred between 31 July 2023 and 1 August 2024.

Janni Ree, once known as “Oddset-Janni” for her modelling work with a betting firm in the 2000s, was married to billionaire Karsten Ree for 11 years. Their marriage ended in August 2024. Karsten Ree, whose fortune exceeds two billion Danish kroner, sold DBA to eBay in the 2000s.

According to earlier reports by newspaper B.T., the draft will allegedly left Janni Ree a two-digit million-kroner sum. Her defence lawyer, Erbil Kaya, told DR that she denies all charges.

This is not her first legal dispute. In 2012, she was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison for defrauding an elderly, vulnerable man, though the sentence was later reduced by six months on appeal. Last autumn, she and Karsten Ree were in court over her book Evig Diva, which contained passages about him. Due to a confidentiality agreement signed during their marriage, the court ordered several sections of the book to be removed.
