Operator TVO will keep the Olkiluoto 2 nuclear reactor running below full power until the latter half of 2027, the company told Yle on Thursday.

The unit is currently producing 735 MW, down from its full capacity of 890 MW. TVO had previously said the reduced output would last until the plant’s annual maintenance in June 2027.

A spare rotor arrived on Wednesday, but TVO plant manager Jukka Vastamäki said the restriction remains in place until a new, technically superior rotor is installed late next year. The measure is intended to prevent another rotor failure that could force a full shutdown.
