Two suspects in serious illegal intelligence case released from custody
Two people suspected of serious illegal intelligence activities against Sweden were released from custody on Thursday morning, Swedish public broadcaster SVT reports.
Deputy chief prosecutor Henrik Olin said he lifted the detention order at 11:00. While the suspects remain under investigation, the evidence has weakened to the point that continued detention is no longer justified.
“An hour ago, I revoked the detention for these two individuals. The level of suspicion has diminished. They are still suspects, but it is no longer proportionate to keep them in custody,” Olin said.
He declined to specify how the suspicion had changed, citing secrecy and a gag order. “They are no longer suspected on probable grounds,” he added.
The preliminary investigation continues, Olin confirmed.
