Explosion at Nammo Vihtavuori plant kills one, injures another
An explosion at the Nammo Vihtavuori industrial site in Laukaa on Wednesday killed one person and injured another, according to Finland’s Safety Investigation Authority (Otkes).
Otkes has completed its on-site investigation, collecting samples, interviewing witnesses, and documenting the scene. The agency has not yet decided whether to launch a full safety probe.
The blast occurred in a 1,000-square-metre two-component mass building not in active production. Expansion work was underway, with plans to bring the structure into use later this year.
Nammo Vihtavuori managing director Ilkka Heikkilä said the deceased and the injured were not plant employees but representatives of a contractor working at the site.
