Western Uusimaa police are investigating whether three Helsinki-area beauty clinics under the same management used unapproved medicinal substances in injectable treatments, Yle reports.
The probe also examines the safety of medical devices used at the clinics. The suspected offences include drug crimes, unauthorised practice of healthcare professions, and possible smuggling. A small number of individuals are under suspicion.
Investigators believe the alleged activities took place over the past few years. Police have not disclosed the names of the companies while the investigation is ongoing.
According to lead investigator Sari Knaapi, a detective chief inspector, police have no information that the use of the substances caused injuries, but the investigation will determine whether the legal criteria for offences have been met.
The inquiry continues with hearings and clarifications in cooperation with the relevant authorities.
