Fire breaks out in Kuhmo row house after wasp removal attempt

A row house in Kuhmo caught fire on Tuesday afternoon after a resident attempted to drive away wasps by placing a lit candle near the building’s exterior wall, police said.

The fire, reported by Kainuu emergency services, spread to the attic space. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but three of the four apartments suffered smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported.

Police are investigating the incident as reckless handling of fire. The case was first reported by Kainuun Sanomat.
