Local integration coordinators play key role, says researcher

Municipalities and regions must appoint local integration coordinators to support newcomers, employers, schools, and daycare centres, according to political scientist Vilhelm Bergsson.

Bergsson, who has studied immigrants in schools and workplaces, told Faroese public broadcaster KVF that integration can be complex for newcomers, as locals often take established systems and rules for granted.

Integration efforts vary across municipalities, with some treating it as an additional task rather than a dedicated role, Bergsson noted.
