A female primary school teacher in Uusimaa has been suspended from her post following allegations of sexual offences against a child, according to a municipal official decision published on Monday.

Police in Eastern Uusimaa suspect the woman, born in 1983, of aggravated sexual assault against a child. A district court remanded her in custody last Thursday on probable cause.

The suspect has been continuously employed by a municipality in Uusimaa since May 2024. Prior to that, she worked as a short-term substitute in various roles, municipal officials stated. According to Yle, she has worked as a class teacher at least during the past school year.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 1 June 2024 and 2 July 2026.

The municipality was informed of the allegations on Friday. A municipal representative said employer procedures had been immediately initiated and preparations begun.

The suspension is temporary and will remain in effect until a final decision is made by the municipality.

Prosecutors must file charges in the case by mid-September. Police have not commented on the allegations, and it remains unclear whether the suspected offences are connected to her official duties.
