Organisers expect up to 40,000 cigarette butts and snus pouches to be discarded at this year’s G! festival, prompting a joint campaign by IRF and the festival to help attendees dispose of them properly.
Cigarette butts and snus pouches pose environmental and safety risks, particularly to children and animals. To address this, IRF and G! festival have launched an initiative providing free pocket ashtrays and designated disposal bins across the site.
Volunteers, referred to as “sóljur” (sunfish), will distribute the ashtrays and guide attendees. While a single butt may seem insignificant, the collective impact of hundreds of festivalgoers using the bins will be substantial, IRF stated.
“We’d rather lend a helping hand than just point fingers. Small actions make a big difference,” said Sigurd L. Lamhauge, IRF director.
