Population falls in nine Faroese municipalities

Nine Faroese municipalities saw their populations decline from June last year to June this year, according to figures from the Faroese statistics office Hagstovan.
The largest percentage drop was in Kunoy municipality, down 7.3%. The biggest absolute decrease was in Tvøroyri, which lost 34 residents. Ørðavík lost 13, Kvívík 21, while Leynar gained six.
More than a third of the Faroes’ total population growth over the past year occurred in Tórshavn, which had 23,744 residents as of 1 June. Growth was also recorded in Runavík, Sjóvar, Klaksvík, Nes, Eystur, and Sands municipalities.
