Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Uusimaa

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Uusimaa and parts of the southern and western Gulf of Finland, Yle reports.

The warning, issued by the Finnish Meteorological Institute, remains in effect until 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Yle meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander said a strong band of thunderstorms has formed over Uusimaa, with similar activity previously observed in Estonia and Russia. He added that large hail and heavy rainfall are possible.

According to the warning map, thunderstorm gusts associated with the storms may exceed 20 meters per second.
