Oslo’s urban environment agency and police have warned against an unsanctioned public screening of a World Cup quarterfinal in Frogner Park, Dagbladet reports.
A private individual has invited people to watch the match on a large screen in the park, but the event has not been applied for or approved, according to Arve Rosland, communications director at the urban environment agency.
“These events are not permitted in Frogner Park,” Rosland said, citing the lack of provisions for security, waste management, toilets, and other essentials for large gatherings. Attendees risk being removed from the park.
The agency instead directs those seeking a free public screening to the city’s official event at City Hall Square, where the match will also be shown.
Oslo police have also received reports of private individuals planning to set up large screens and sound systems in public spaces to show the match. Such events without proper permits risk being shut down, with equipment confiscated and organisers potentially reported, according to operations manager Eirik Sannes.
