Oslo police expect another massive public celebration in the city centre tonight if Norway defeats England in the World Cup quarter-final, with crowds potentially matching the 100,000 who gathered after the win over Brazil earlier this week.

Operation leader Ine Jahren told Dagbladet authorities anticipate a major street party, but warned strongly against dangerous behaviour, particularly the use of fireworks in crowded areas.

“We think this is very scary, and there’s a high risk of personal injury,” Jahren said, noting that fireworks were set off among the crowds during the previous match.

Police also urged revellers not to climb lampposts, statues, or other structures, citing the danger to both climbers and those below. “It’s important that we all take responsibility and celebrate safely,” Jahren added.

Fines for illegal fireworks use start at 6,000 kroner, with higher penalties if damage or injury occurs. Disrupting public order carries a minimum 10,000 kroner fine.

With large crowds expected, Jahren advised leaving cars at home and using public transport. She also called on parents to ensure young people have a safe plan for getting home.
