Aarhus municipality should improve conditions for residents from the Faroe Islands and Greenland, according to city council members Jakob Søgaard Clausen of the Denmark Democrats and Jesper Kjeldsen of the Social Democrats, as reported by Greenlandic broadcaster KNR.
The two politicians stated that the Kingdom of the Realm is a significant part of shared history and will grow in importance, emphasizing that Faroese and Greenlandic residents in Aarhus must feel like a natural and visible part of the local community.
Proposed measures include permanently flying the Faroese and Greenlandic flags on their respective national days and installing public artworks in Aarhus that symbolize the unity of the three nations within the Kingdom of the Realm.
Kjeldsen, who has lived and worked in Greenland, said the city should continuously strengthen initiatives that improve well-being and highlight the strong ties between Aarhus, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. Both council members hope other municipalities will follow Aarhus’s example.
