Finnish drivers can expect the recent decline in fuel prices to slow but not stop, according to Hanna Kalenoja, lead transport specialist at the Central Chamber of Commerce, as reported by Yle.
Despite the end of the US-Iran ceasefire earlier this week, the development has not yet created significant upward pressure on oil prices or fuel costs in Finland, Kalenoja said.
She noted that while raw oil prices influence fuel costs, short-term fluctuations in Finland are also driven by strong weekly price cycles. For weekend trips, Kalenoja advised filling up as close to the weekend as possible, with Sunday typically offering the lowest prices.
In the long term, Kalenoja said the end of the ceasefire has primarily slowed the rate of price declines. Without renewed escalation, fuel prices might have dropped faster this summer, potentially approaching €1.80–1.90 per litre. Now, the decrease is delayed.
Forecasting fuel prices for autumn remains challenging, she added. If logistics and refining costs stay stable and supply remains unaffected, crude oil could settle at $80–90 per barrel, translating to roughly €1.80–1.90 per litre for fuel. However, disruptions such as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz or attacks on oil infrastructure could drive prices higher.
