No criminal suspicion in Kontula shopping centre fire
Police have concluded their preliminary investigation into the April fire at Kontula shopping centre in Helsinki and do not suspect any criminal activity, Yle reports.
The blaze started on 6 April in a storage area near the loading dock of the shopping centre’s commercial properties. Investigators determined it was caused by a technical fault in an electrical device. There is no indication of deliberate action or negligent fire handling.
One person died in the fire. Police confirmed the victim was lawfully present in the shopping centre at the time and was not connected to the incident.
The case was previously investigated as both a fire cause probe and a death inquiry.
