Finland joins multinational naval initiative
Finland is participating in a multinational naval initiative aimed at increasing European and Canadian naval responsibility for the defense of the North Atlantic, Baltic Sea, and Arctic regions, the Finnish Ministry of Defence announced.
The initiative, signed by Finland alongside Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, was formalized at a NATO defense ministers’ meeting on June 18 and published during NATO’s Ankara summit.
“With this initiative, we demonstrate that European countries and Canada are taking on greater responsibility for deterrence and defense,” the ministry stated.
