France to deploy troops in Sweden as part of NATO force
France will deploy hundreds of soldiers to Boden in northern Sweden as part of the Swedish-led NATO frontline force FLF Finland, SVT reports.
The decision is expected to be finalised today during a bilateral meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Ankara, on the sidelines of a NATO summit.
France has committed to contributing a company-sized unit of around 200 troops, who will operate on a rotational basis under FLF Finland. The soldiers will primarily be based in Boden.
The specific military unit has not yet been confirmed, though French mountain troops—specialised in winter warfare in subarctic conditions—have been mentioned as a likely option.
