A Faroese marine biologist has warned that the decline in seabird populations, including puffins, is being driven by human activity, KVF reports.
Jóhannis Danielsen, a biologist at the Faroese Marine Research Institute (Havstovan), said the poor condition of puffins and other seabirds comes as no surprise given trends observed in other countries.
While annual fluctuations in colony sizes are normal, Danielsen noted a multi-year downward trend clearly indicating a shrinking bird population.
