A basement restaurant on Helsinki’s Bulevardi street will remain closed for up to six weeks after heavy rain caused major water damage, Yle reports.
Pincho Nation’s restaurant manager Karoliina Saarikoski said water poured in through the middle of a wall—an unusual entry point—during last Sunday’s downpour in southern Helsinki. The flood damaged several commercial spaces, including a shop on Iso Roobertinkatu and a Lidl supermarket in Jätkäsaari.
The closure means the restaurant will lose an entire peak summer month of revenue. About 20 staff are affected: some will have leave rescheduled, others transferred to the chain’s German locations, and a number will be temporarily laid off.
An inventory of the kitchen showed equipment remained undamaged, though the space itself requires repairs.
