Swedish grocery prices fell by 0.2 percent in June compared to May, according to Matpriskollen’s monthly price tracking.

Fruit, dairy, and cheese saw the steepest declines, while beef prices continued to rise. Since the start of the year, overall food prices have dropped by 6 percent, a trend partly attributed to the VAT reduction on food introduced on 1 April.

Matpriskollen noted in a statement that many food items have become cheaper even without the tax cut. “I don’t think consumers have kept up with the changes over the past year. Food is actually getting cheaper, even without the VAT reduction,” the organization said.

There are no signs of supermarkets raising prices again, it added. “We see virtually no price increases for consumers, and the pressure on suppliers to restrain price hikes remains very strong.”
