Proposal for digitization of property registration in Faroe Islands

A proposal has been made for the digitization of property registration in the Faroe Islands. The Environmental Ministry has drafted amendments to the property registration law, enabling the handling of digital documents.

The proposed changes encompass numerous updates, and the legal draft, along with explanatory notes, totals 83 pages. Since 2022, the Environmental Agency has been actively working to digitize property registration processes.

The first step in this digitization initiative is to develop a digital submission system for property records, which is set to launch on January 1, 2025. The ministry anticipates that digitization will lead to shorter processing times for property registrations.

The legislative proposal is open for public consultation until September 2.
