Belgium advanced to the World Cup quarter-finals after eliminating the US with a 3–1 victory, with American goalkeeper Matt Freese’s error gifting Belgium their third goal, SVT reports.

Portugal also exited the tournament after losing to Spain in the round of 16, marking the end of Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup career at 41.

Meanwhile, Sweden’s government announced plans to investigate differentiated VAT rates on food, aiming to reduce costs for essential household groceries. Industry group Livsmedelsföretagen criticised the proposal, warning it would create arbitrary and cumbersome distinctions between food categories.

A tanker was struck by a projectile near the Strait of Hormuz, about eight nautical miles east of Limah, Oman, according to UK maritime security agency UKMTO. Separately, US military sources told Axios that Iran had fired at least two missiles at commercial vessels in the strait.
