Written exams are no longer standard practice and the relationship between teachers and students is under pressure, the principal of a mid-school in the Faroe Islands told public broadcaster KVF.
This year’s exams were the first to allow widespread use of AI tools throughout the school year, with students receiving assistance to write their submissions, Christian Joensen, acting principal at Kambsdalur Mid-School, said.
He added that the current mid-school system, introduced in 2013, no longer relies on written assessments. Instead, he argued, schools should shift to oral exams to ensure students truly understand what they have written.
Joensen also warned that the situation could create a more strained relationship between teachers and students.
