Finland sets bear hunting quota at 85 for reindeer herding area
Finland’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has set this year’s bear hunting quota for the reindeer herding area at 85, unchanged from last year, according to a report by Yle.
The quota allows for 70 bears to be hunted in the eastern reindeer herding area and 15 in the western area. The goal is to keep bear-related reindeer losses at a reasonable level after damages to reindeer herding reached €2.85 million last year.
The hunting season begins on 20 August and runs until the end of October or until the quota is filled.
