Denmark will strengthen its support for the Faroe Islands, according to a communication from the Danish government reported by Faroese broadcaster KVF.

The document, addressed to the Faroese committee of the Folketing, states that no international decisions concerning the Faroe Islands will be made without Faroese involvement. The government will also engage in dialogue with the Faroese authorities to modernize their union, including expanding the islands’ foreign policy powers.

Denmark aims to modernize Danish institutions in the Faroe Islands, particularly the judiciary. If the Faroese government agrees, Denmark is prepared to negotiate a loan for the Suðuroy tunnel project. It will also address demands for linguistic equality and legal recognition for workers in the healthcare sector.

Efforts will be made to grant the Faroe Islands the same double taxation agreements as Denmark and to increase cooperation between the Faroe Islands and the EU. The plan also includes independent membership in the WTO, Nordic Council, and International Olympic Committee.
