A surge of emergency calls flooded the fire department in the Greater Reykjavik area following heavy rainfall today. Firefighters had to coordinate the deployment of an additional pump truck, manned by morning shift staff, to assist in removing water from homes that had been inundated.

As of the time of the inquiry, the total number of emergency calls had not been confirmed, but six requests were recorded in a short span, with more reports coming in from around the city. Water was reported to have entered both residential and commercial properties.

In light of such significant rainfall, the fire department emphasizes the importance of ensuring that rainwater flows freely into drainage systems. They also urge the public to contact insurance companies and the fire department if they anticipate substantial damage.
