The Faroese government has decided to close the public works planning division of Landsverk, the national public works authority, but the move has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties in the Løgting (Faroese parliament).
Opposition leaders argue the decision was rushed and misguided. Jenis av Rana of the Centre Party stated that the government acted too quickly, while Sámal Petur í Grund, leader of the Self-Government Party, called for strengthening Landsverk instead.
Sirið Stenberg, leader of the Republic party, said steps must be taken to correct the current system. Ruth Vang, leader of the Progress Party, did not oppose the use of private contractors but stressed that core public expertise must be retained.
The planning division has faced challenges with general public works, though adjustments have been made to address these issues.
