Denmark’s foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will press his Chinese counterpart on Beijing’s backing of Russia’s war in Ukraine during talks in Copenhagen on Thursday, state broadcaster DR reports.

“China’s support for Russia’s war effort in Ukraine is a major concern, and it is also damaging China’s reputation among Western European populations,” Løkke Rasmussen said ahead of the meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The two ministers will also address trade imbalances, with Løkke noting that while the EU as a whole runs a significant trade deficit with China, Denmark’s bilateral trade with Beijing remains roughly balanced.

Wang is scheduled to continue his Nordic tour with visits to Sweden, Finland, and Norway in the coming days. Løkke Rasmussen said he expects the Chinese minister to receive a consistent message across all four countries.

The formal meeting will be followed by a working dinner at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen.
