Police in southwestern Finland have arrested three protesters near the construction site of a TNT explosives factory in Pori’s Noormarkku district on suspicion of environmental contamination.
The group, aged 20 to 40, had been distributing banners opposing the factory project when officers received reports of oil being dumped on the ground earlier the same day. Investigators suspect the protesters were responsible for the spill.
Authorities are still determining the extent of the environmental damage and the exact substance involved, according to Jari Klaus, lead investigator and detective chief inspector with the Southwest Finland Police Department.
Police are continuing the preliminary investigation, including questioning the suspects.
