In July, over 837 new cars were registered, a significant decrease compared to 1,270 in the same month last year, reflecting a 34% drop. The decline was even more pronounced for rental cars, which saw a 51% decrease, according to the Car Dealers Association.
So far this year, new car registrations have decreased by 37.7%. This marks the lowest number of new registrations during the first seven months of the year since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The Car Dealers Association further noted that the proportion of electric vehicles has rebounded after a dip earlier this year. In July, 30% of newly registered vehicles were fully electric. Following that, hybrid vehicles were the next most popular choice. About a quarter of the new cars registered in July ran on either gasoline or diesel.
