A portrait of former Tampere mayor Kalervo Kummola will have an unintended Porin Ässät ice hockey team logo removed, Yle reports.
The artist, professor Timo Vuorikoski, initiated the correction after noticing the logo near Kummola’s shoulder in the June 15 unveiling at Tampere City Hall. Vuorikoski apologized for the mistake, which Kummola accepted.
“He asked for forgiveness for the blunder, and now it will be replaced with Ilves and Tappara [logos],” Kummola told Yle. He speculated that Vuorikoski, not being a hockey fan, may have overlooked the detail.
Kummola had requested the Tampere arena as the background, but logos or advertisements were not discussed with the artist. At the time of painting, a billboard at the arena featured an Ässät and Tappara match, with part of Tappara’s logo also visible in the artwork.
The correction will be made after the summer holidays, with no fixed schedule. Kummola served as Tampere’s mayor from 2023 to 2025 and has been city council chair since 2025.
