A 46-year-old man died Tuesday evening in a traffic accident after a police chase that began in Denmark and crossed into Germany, German broadcaster NDR reports.

The pursuit started on Denmark’s E45 motorway near Kruså, according to South & Sønderjylland Police, who attempted to stop the vehicle at around 21:20 following a report of a criminal offence. The car failed to stop and entered Germany, with Danish patrol units following under coordination with German authorities before handing over the operation.

About 25 kilometres inside Germany on the A7 motorway, the vehicle collided with a truck. The driver, a Romanian citizen residing in Denmark, was killed. His 42-year-old wife and 11-year-old daughter, both seriously injured, were hospitalised but are not in life-threatening condition. The truck driver was unharmed.

Flensburg police confirmed the deceased’s identity and nationality to JydskeVestkysten.
