Prosecutors have closed an investigation into a former employee of Sweden’s National Defence Radio Establishment (FRA) over suspected serious unauthorized handling of classified information and aggravated data intrusion, SVT reports.

Chief prosecutor Per Lindqvist said the case was dropped because the alleged offences could not be proven, as secrecy restrictions prevented key witnesses from being fully interviewed.

“The decision I have taken today is based in part on considerations from the suspect’s former employer. These considerations, in my view, rest on reasonable positions that prioritize Sweden’s security,” Lindqvist stated.

The woman and her husband, a Swedish Armed Forces employee, were arrested in October 2023 and held in custody until 13 December that year. Charges against the man were dropped in September 2024.
